Johann Zarco has been the fastest rookie of the day in the third and final practice session of MotoGP that serves as a bridge to get direct access to Q2. The two-time world champion Moto2 has won the third best time of the FP3 and fourth in the combined time sheets, remaining just over six tenths of Viñales.
The Frenchman explains that the Monster Yamaha Tech3 and he did a “really good” job that leads them “direct to Q2, something important for several reasons, but mainly because we can save some tires.” He adds that he “was not confident about the track conditions” despite climbing to the top of the table and becoming the day’s rookie.
“Today my confidence increased and I was a bit lucky because at the end of the session, while I was using the soft tires, I followed Maverick and learned a lot from him, as well as improving my lap time,” explained # 5. “I’m going to prepare for the race as much as I can because I think if I’m strong during the 22 laps, I can end up with a big smile on Sunday.”

Jonas Folger also did not end up very far from his teammate: he took 12th place in the FP3 while he took the 8th place in the combined boards, favored by the 3rd position he achieved in FP2. Despite sliding in the FP3 after falling for “going out with used tires”, there were no physical consequences.
“We are not far from the fastest time and we have a good bike for tomorrow, so I’m sure we can do a solid job,” said the Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider. “I would be very happy if I could qualify in the top ten, but my main goal is to track the lap time I’ve done during this test,” said Folger.
