Disaster For Honda: Guy Martin Says He Will not Race the Senior TT

Things are not coming to Honda Racing as they had planned. This year they had a perfect team to fight for the victory with Guy Martin and John McGuiness and their new CBR1000RR SP2. In the North West 200 McGuiness went to the ground with a big crash and was out of action for that race and also the TT for his injuries. Honda decided to be cautious and see if the accident was a failure of the bike or a thing of the rider, therefore Guy Martin also did not go running on the day of the race in Ireland.

In this way Guy Martin was the only one who would defend the colors of the Japanese house in the Isle of Man. With few previous training left to roll on track and finish adjusting the bike on the long track. Guy Martin suffered an unexpected crash in the first race of Superbike claiming that the bike was stuck between 5th and 4th speed, in a fast part of the circuit.

Now few hours before the Senior TT, the race with more cache of the program, Honda has reported that it will not race and Guy Martin has said that it will take more time to make it work and do well. Guy is upset, but both he and Honda confirm that he will race next month in the Southern 100 under the same colors. Also the rider will participate in the TT Zero with the electric Mugen in the Isle of Man finishing his participation there this year.

Jonny Twelvetrees, team manager: “We made the decision because of the lack of time for Guy on the Fireblade. We came here to race, and everyone in the team – who worked very hard these months – were waiting to see what it could do the new bike. Guy has informed me that he would not race the Senior, a difficult but understandable decision given the lack of time. “

Guy Martin: “I came back to TT this year to race and try to win with Honda Racing. We worked hard to get here with the team. To fight for the victory we need more time to tune the bike and six laps are not enough to achieve what we want, and I have always thought that this is not a place to go on track simply to get out the numbers, so we decided with the team that it was best not to go out to the Senior TT, I had time to think about this after the accident.
