Carmelo Ezpeleta already warned a few days ago: Dorna had the intention of bringing together the MotoGP riders at the Austin Safety Commission to talk about everything that happened in Argentina two weeks ago. Among the points to review at this meeting held on Friday afternoon were the sanctions that should be received by pilots who touch a rival and take him out of the way, as happened in Argentina with Marc Márquez, Johann Zarco, and Danilo Petrucci.
Only Jorge Lorenzo, Scott Redding, Tito Rabat and the rookies Franco Morbidelli and Syahrin were absent from a meeting in which they talked, and much, of the touch between Márquez and Valentino Rossi and of all the cross-references that took place afterwards, the controversy also to social media, where Aleix Espargaró charged hard against Petrucci and PRAMAC Racing, which came out in defense of his driver.
In this meeting of the Safety Commission, which lasted about two hours, there was also one of the most anticipated moments in these last two weeks: the reunion between Marc Márquez and Valentino Rossi, who had an exchange of words during the meeting with some reproaches for what happened in this last week.
According to public La Gazzetta dello Sport, and citing anonymous sources present at that meeting, there was a fairly heated debate among several pilots when the subject of the actions of Zarco on Pedrosa and Marc on Valentino was discussed. The Italian was critical of them because of his way of overtaking, to which Marc would have responded “we have learned from you“, a response that did not please the Italian, who replied: “But how are you going to compare yourself to me? I dropped four (riders) in 20 years, you have five in a race “.
At this point, Carmelo Ezpeleta calmed the two pilots and the meeting came to an end, drawing an important conclusion: from now on, the Panel of Commissioners will be stricter in penalizing the touches between pilots, either with Black flags or even to prevent the participation of the penalized pilot in the next big prize.
The pilots were also offered the possibility of sending an email to the organization of the championship at the end of a race to express their complaints for a sanction or for the maneuver of another pilot. These, meanwhile, asked Dorna the possibility that the Panel of Commissioners – formed by the Race Director and two members of the FIM – also has an ex-driver who can provide his track experience at the time of sanctioning any maneuver The request will be studied by Dorna and the FIM during the next weeks.
