The Energica Eva, more retro than ever – deBolex gets its hands on the Energica Eva. The Italian electric motorcycle looks stylish and retro like you never would have imagined.

With the arrival of electric motorcycles, many believe that it will have to change many forms of manufacturing and, therefore, also personalization. In this case, we find a really eye-catching electric motorcycle, but that does not seem very different from other retro customizations. It is an Energica Eva that has passed through the hands of the English house deBolex Engineering in a project initiated by Gareth Maxwell Roberts, director of a documentary on motorcycling called Oil in the Blood.

It is not exactly gasoline that needs this custom bike, but great know-how. For this reason, Gareth chose the team formed by Calum Pryce-Tidd and Des Francis, two experts in traditional crafts that could apply their art in a futuristic machine. Thanks to the collaboration of TW Steel, which sponsors the work on the Italian electric motorcycle, it has been possible to do a lot of research to find the right model, choosing the Modena brand, which will be in 2018 to supply the motorcycles of the new MotoE championship.

Not in vain, the Energica Eva retro has a very attractive performance with 145 hp and 200 Nm in addition to promising a range of a not inconsiderable 200 km. It is very fast and easy to use the vehicle, so engineers do not have to worry about amending those basic problems of other bikes before starting personalization.

The duo of customizers had the opportunity to meet the head of Energica and know the factory and the intricacies of the bike. The brand sent a unit of the Energica Eva to England so they could work on it for two months.

DeBolex ‘magicians’ undressed the electric motorcycle and were able to work surprisingly with great ease. They only relocated the ABS module and the water pump, in addition to readjusting the subframe. Apart from that, the bike was already ready to receive a new fairing. The modifications made on the Energica Eva begin with the new aluminum fairing manufactured in a traditional way, with panels flowing from the front to the back and giving it a very interesting retro touch. The biggest problem, in this case, was in the batteries, which have been clearly covered. They have wisely integrated the cooling system into the design. The power control is located behind the new ‘reservoir’ while the recharging unit is under the tail.

The seat is upholstered in Alcantara. For its part, a Maxton RT10 rear shock absorber has been installed, combined with a pair of forged Dymag UP7X wheels with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa tires. The brakes have also been improved with twin calipers and Brembo discs with Magura levers. Rizoma also signs some components (brake fluid reservoir, set of footrests) in addition to the Renthal grips and Pro-Bolt bolts. Finally, the painting had to be faced with the decision to mix a series of gray, silver and white tones.
